The Event

This coming spring, the Commons Hub opens its gates to a new season of sparkling creativity between commoners of all trades. Together, we celebrate the restart of the natural cycle of life by sowing the seeds of our growing independence from crumbing centralized practices and infrastructures.

The second edition of our ReFi Unconference combines a co-created exploration of the state of the art in regenerative finance with hands-on permaculture sessions and tinkering with agricultural IoT under the guidance of experts:

ReFi Focus:

• theories of change within ReFi
• potentials & risks of tokenizing nature
• ownership vs. stewardship of land
• Present your project!

Solarpunk aesthetics:

• storyweaving apparently disparate elements of the week into a meta-thread
• artistically beautifying the Hub
• exploring and refining the stylistic and social markers of an emerging subculture

Agricultural IoT Projects:

• a semi-automated mushroom farm
• IoT-supported beehives
• a FarmBot Express XL
• a water management system

Permaculture Workshops:

• developing an agricultural concept
• drafting a planting and harvesting plan
• building raised beds
• tilling the fields

Expect inspiring talks, debates and workshops; liberating structures, productive chaos and emerging order. Expect morning meditations, hot & cold baths in stunning nature; late-night fires & dances, crazes, frenzies. Expect laughing fits and making new friendships.

Key Concepts

Solarpunk poses an optimistic counternarrative to the doomerist cyberpunk vision of environmental, societal and economic collapse in face of ever growing challenges to modernity. Premised on the transformation of competitive extraction into regenerative abundance, Solarpunk simultaneously inspires optimism and poses tough questions (how do we get there?) that call for radical answers.

Permaculture is an ecological design methodology for creating sustainable human habitats and regenerating depleted natural ecosystems along existing natural patterns and relationships. It emphasizes the use of renewable resources to create self-sustaining systems.
